Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is a Bloody, Euphoric Ride

Director Jane Schoenbrun is back with Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, a film that centers on Kris Williams, a young filmmaker tasked with rebooting a controversial slasher franchise. Kris travels to meet Billy Presley, the original final girl who has lived in seclusion on the film's set for years. Their meeting sparks an intense, psychosexual journey that pushes Kris to shed her rigid professional persona.

The film leans hard into the aesthetic of 1970s and 80s horror movies. With the help of cinematographer Eric Yue, Schoenbrun creates a surreal, technicolor world that feels like a dream. While the story is packed with gore and classic horror tropes, it remains deeply focused on the human need to be seen and the complications of finding one's identity within the movie industry.

While the movie is visually stunning and features incredible chemistry between stars Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson, it does have a few bumps. The comedic moments often feel a bit flat or stilted, struggling to find a rhythm against the film's grand, dramatic visuals. Even so, the emotional weight and the bold stylistic choices make it a fascinating watch for fans of experimental horror.
