One Piece Producer Surprised By Lack Of New Anime Adaptations

Steven Maeda, the executive producer behind the live action One Piece series, thought the show would trigger a flood of similar projects. After the series became a massive global hit, many industry insiders predicted that Hollywood would quickly greenlight more live action adaptations of popular manga.

However, this anticipated trend has not materialized. Maeda explained that the current financial climate in the entertainment industry makes it very difficult to secure the necessary funding for these ambitious projects. Even with a proven success story like One Piece, studios remain cautious about moving new adaptations into production.

Maeda shared these thoughts during the Tokyo International Film Festival Content Market. While the future of big budget anime adaptations remains uncertain, fans are still waiting to see if other studios will eventually follow the path laid out by the Straw Hat crew.
