Newlyweds Episode 1 Review Brings Real Life Romance to Sitcoms
The new sitcom Newlyweds brings real life couple Téa Leoni and Tim Daly together for a charming and funny pilot episode.
manhwa.newsFans of cozy sitcoms have a fun new option to check out with the premiere of Newlyweds. Directed by Pamela Flynn and created by Jamie Lee Curtis and Gail Lerner, the pilot episode leans into the comforting formulas that make television comedies so relaxing to watch. The show stars Téa Leoni and Tim Daly, who have fantastic chemistry on screen because they are actually married in real life. Their natural charm immediately pulls viewers into the story.
The pilot introduces us to Jeanie, a spontaneous science teacher played by Leoni, and James, a disciplined professor played by Daly. They meet on a blind date right before James leaves for a month in Norway. The episode spends its twenty two minutes rushing through their whirlwind romance, including phone calls interrupted by James and his hilarious teaching assistant Arvid, played by Bill O'Neill. The supporting cast also features Jamie Lee Curtis as Claudia, James's over the top ex wife who brings plenty of chaotic energy to the scenes.
While the episode has a few stumbles, including a very fast romance pacing that makes the characters ignore some obvious warning signs, the show has a ton of potential. The lead actors are extremely talented, and Jamie Lee Curtis delivers great comedic timing whenever she is on screen. If the series keeps up the same energy as the pilot, it is shaping up to be one of the best new shows of the season.
Newlyweds is currently streaming on Peacock, with new episodes airing on NBC on Friday nights and streaming on Saturdays.
