NBA 2K27 Review: The Best Basketball Gameplay in Years

The latest entry in the NBA 2K series is here, and it manages to make the game feel fresh where it counts. Visual Concepts focused heavily on the on court experience this year, adding over 7,000 new animations through the ProPLAY system. The game feels more responsive than ever, as players move with distinct styles that finally reflect their real life counterparts. Defense has also received a massive overhaul, making every possession feel like a real battle against the CPU.

The MyCareer mode offers some interesting new options, including the ability to play through different historical eras with a created player. The new co op feature is a fun, long requested addition, even if it feels like just the first step toward a more complete system. For those who enjoy character customization, the option to finally create female MyPLAYERs is a welcome and long overdue change to the series.

While the gameplay hits new heights, other parts of the experience are a bit of a mixed bag. The broadcast presentation is visually stunning, though it still suffers from occasional graphical glitches. Additionally, the modes focused on microtransactions feel largely unchanged. While die hard fans will likely enjoy the gameplay refinements, players who prefer a different experience might find the recurring issues with collections and currency systems a bit tiresome.
