Love of Your Life feels like a classic romantic comedy at first. We see a charming meet cute between an emergency room nurse named Maya and a professor named Charlie. Their relationship is bright, full of life, and easy to fall in love with as an audience member. However, the story quickly shifts gears to show the harsh reality of grief after a sudden tragedy strikes during the pandemic.

Margaret Qualley shines as Maya, a character who struggles to keep her life together after losing the person who opened her world. Rather than focusing on a typical romance, the movie shows how trauma can make someone run away. Maya leaves her old life behind to travel abroad, attempting to heal by numbing her pain. It is a tough but necessary look at how grief does not follow a straight line.

Things change when Maya meets Felix, played by Aaron Pierre. His character brings a new sense of safety and patience to her life. He understands that grief leaves cracks that never truly disappear. This film does a great job of showing how we try to move forward while carrying the weight of our past. It is an emotional watch, but it feels very human.
