Is Reborn as a Space Mercenary Worth Your Time?

Reborn as a Space Mercenary has been gaining traction lately, so we decided to check out the first two volumes of the light novel. The story follows a classic reincarnation premise set in a vast sci fi environment, aiming to hit all those familiar tropes that fans of the genre usually enjoy.

However, the execution feels a bit lacking in terms of depth. While it tries to follow a standard power fantasy structure, the writing misses out on the extra flair or thoughtful character work that makes other titles in this genre stand out. It feels like the series is going through the motions rather than building something truly special.

If you are a fan of quick, straightforward stories where the protagonist easily overcomes obstacles, this might still be a fun way to kill an afternoon. Just keep in mind that it sticks very close to a generic formula without trying anything new. We are curious to see if the future volumes add more personality to the experience.
