Heroes of the Storm Returns with New Hero Xal'atath
Blizzard surprised fans at BlizzCon 2026 by announcing that Heroes of the Storm is officially back in development.
manhwa.newsBig news for the Nexus! During the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony, Blizzard revealed that Heroes of the Storm is making a comeback. Despite a public announcement four years ago stating that active development was ending, a dedicated team has been working quietly behind the scenes to keep the game alive. Lead Game Producer James Yen explained that while updates were sparse, the team never truly gave up on the project.
After spending about a year and a half modernizing the game's infrastructure and technology, the team shifted their focus to bug fixes and fresh content. This effort led to the announcement of Xal'atath as the newest playable hero. Chosen for her current prominence as a major villain in World of Warcraft, Xal'atath brings a sassy and wicked personality that the team felt was a perfect fit for the game's roster.
Players can expect Xal'atath to arrive with a specialized bundle, though she will eventually become available to unlock using in game gold. The team is currently prioritizing returning players and ensuring the game feels stable and fun for its long term community. With this successful revival, fans can look forward to more hero releases in the future as the game enters a new era.
