Chad Powers Season 2 Review: A Disappointing Shift To Drama

Fans tuning into Chad Powers Season 2 might be surprised by how much the show has changed. Based on the old Eli Manning comedy skit, the first season leaned hard into dark humor, biting insults, and fun football jokes. Unfortunately, the new season makes a sharp pivot into a serious sports drama, losing the charm that made the debut season work so well.

Instead of keeping its funny and edgy tone, the show now tries too hard to chase critical acclaim and prestige. The writing waters down the characters, sanitizes the humor, and swaps out the fun tailgate vibe for a muted color palette and heavy drama. Even star Glen Powell and a few standout performances from the supporting cast cannot save the show from its new identity crisis.

While Wynn Everett still shines as the crass booster Tricia Yaeger, the rest of the ensemble struggles with the tonal shift. The romance plots feel forced, the dialogue relies too much on internet jokes, and the action on the field suffers from dark and muddy cinematography. Fans hoping for the same energetic sports comedy from the first outing will likely find this sophomore season hard to finish.
