WoW Midnight Directors Discuss Power Scaling and Forever Updates

Following the recent BlizzCon 2026 reveal, the team behind World of Warcraft Midnight sat down to discuss the state of the game. With the upcoming 12.2 patch sending players underground to face Xal atath, fans are eager for more details. However, a major talking point remains the effectiveness of the recent stat squish, as player power and boss health pools are already climbing rapidly toward massive numbers once again.

Game Director Ion Hazzikostas explained that while stat squishes are a necessary tool to keep numbers readable, they are disruptive to the player experience. He noted that developers prioritize gameplay balance, ensuring that gear upgrades provide a noticeable 10 to 15 percent power increase. While there are no immediate plans for another squish, Hazzikostas hinted that players should expect a level squish when The Last Titan arrives, bringing the level cap to 100 once again.

The conversation also shifted to the newly announced World of Warcraft Forever, which introduces modern server infrastructure and visual improvements like better lighting and particle effects. Although these features are currently tied to the Forever experience, Hazzikostas mentioned that the team is interested in bringing some of these technical upgrades, and potentially even features like surnames, over to the Modern version of the game.

Ultimately, these technical improvements are more than just a quick engine flip. Much of the visual overhaul in Forever required extensive manual work from environment artists. As the team continues to develop both versions of the game, they remain committed to finding ways to bridge the gap between classic foundations and modern polish.
