The Zeta Set Launch Was A Total Disaster For Magic Fans
Wizards of the Coast struggled with technical failures and stock issues during the messy debut of the new Secret Lair and MSCHF collaboration.
manhwa.newsMagic: The Gathering recently teamed up with the art collective MSCHF to release The Zeta Set. This collection features 121 reprints designed to look like early playtest cards, complete with placeholder images and creative artistic choices. It was meant to be a fun trip down memory lane that honored the history of the game, but the actual launch turned into a massive headache for everyone involved.
Fans who tried to purchase the booster packs faced a disastrous experience. Wizards of the Coast eventually paused the waiting room queue for nearly an hour, only for the product to sell out almost immediately after the site came back online. The company has since publicly called the situation a disaster and is currently investigating what went wrong, even hinting at possible external tampering.
While the company works on a root cause analysis, many players are left frustrated and empty handed. If you managed to place an order but have not received a confirmation, the team suggests reaching out to their customer support for help. For now, there are no immediate plans for another booster product like this one, though future Secret Lair decks will return to a print to demand model.
