Review: Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 brings big emotions and new faces

We are back in the neon streets of Night City for the second season of the collaboration between Studio Trigger and Netflix. While the first season set a high bar, this follow up moves away from David Martinez to tell a new story. The season focuses on a larger ensemble including Talia, a girl struggling with cyberpsychosis, her mentor figure Weak, a revenge focused nomad named D, and a young filmmaker named Roman.

Because the show moves from a single focused romance to a larger cast, the narrative feels much more ambitious but also a bit crowded. The series does an excellent job of expanding the lore and showing us different corners of this dangerous world. However, with so many stories happening at once, some viewers might find it difficult to connect deeply with everyone before the plot starts to pick up speed.

The animation remains beautiful and captures the chaotic energy of the series perfectly. While the middle episodes struggle to balance all these competing storylines, the final few episodes deliver a powerful emotional payoff. The show succeeds in creating a new perspective on the corrupt world of the corpos while maintaining the tragic, high stakes tone that fans of the franchise expect.

You do not need to have seen the first season to enjoy this entry, as it stands on its own. While it misses some of the tight focus of the original run, it proves that there are many more stories worth telling in this universe. Fans who appreciate a messy, heartfelt journey through a dystopian future will likely find plenty to love here.
