Nintendo Switch 2 Gets a Battery Upgrade in Europe

Nintendo has started to release an updated version of the Switch 2 across Europe. The most significant change is tucked away inside the device. This new model includes a 5,172mAh battery that owners can replace themselves using official Nintendo instructions, rather than relying on customer support services.

The hardware change comes ahead of new European battery regulations that will take effect in February 2027. While this update is a big step for repairability, the console is about 14 grams heavier than the original model.

Fans should know that there is no functional difference between the original Switch 2 and this revised version. The performance and features remain exactly the same, so users do not need to worry about one version being better than the other.
