Hands On With Marvel’s Wolverine: A Bloody Good Time

The upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine from Insomniac Games is shaping up to be a wild ride. In our early hands on time, Logan feels like a true force of nature. Using the controller to pop his iconic claws in and out feels incredibly satisfying, and the combat is fast, heavy, and delightfully aggressive. You have access to standard attacks, parries, and dodges, plus some powerful special moves that let you tear through groups of enemies with ease.

The game establishes a unique timeline where the X Men do not exist yet. Instead, Logan is part of Team X alongside Sabertooth and Mystique. The character dynamics are a major highlight, especially the tense rivalry between Logan and Sabertooth. Their bickering in the middle of a fight adds a lot of personality to the action, and they even work together to take down opponents.

While the combat is straightforward, the mature tone and story are what kept us hooked. From haunting scenes depicting the harsh treatment of mutants to the intense gore during fits of rage, the game does not shy away from the darker side of Logan’s life. The performances are also excellent, with Liam McIntyre perfectly capturing the internal struggle of a man torn between his humanity and his animalistic instincts.

There is still a lot to learn about how the gameplay will grow throughout the full journey. We are curious to see if the mechanics become more complex as the story moves past the first act. Even so, the initial presentation and the sheer thrill of playing as Wolverine make this one of our most anticipated titles.
