Greta Gerwig Debuts Magical Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew Trailer

Director Greta Gerwig recently shared a first look at Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew during a special IMAX screening in New York City. The event featured a trailer debut that gave fans a glimpse into the origin story of the beloved series. Gerwig, a lifelong fan of C.S. Lewis, shared her passion for the project and her commitment to honoring the original source material while bringing a fresh vision to the screen.

The film stars newcomers David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell as Digory and Polly, who were selected after a massive casting search. They are joined by a star studded cast including Daniel Craig as Uncle Andrew and Meryl Streep as the voice of Aslan. Emma Mackey also makes an appearance as the iconic White Witch. Gerwig emphasized that her approach focuses on the heart of the story, framing the movie as a tale of creation where Narnia is brought into existence through song.

Music plays a central role in this production. Gerwig brought on Barbie collaborators Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt to craft the score. In a major milestone, the film will feature Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven, marking the first time the band has licensed the track for a movie. Gerwig noted that the song aligns perfectly with the film’s themes.

While some changes, such as shifting the setting to the 1940s, have sparked curiosity, the project has received support from the estate of C.S. Lewis. This film stands as a significant moment for Netflix, as it marks the streamer’s first wide theatrical release. Fans can look forward to seeing how Gerwig adapts this classic origin story when it hits screens.
