Ezio’s Original Assassin's Creed 2 Story Was Much Larger

Longtime Ubisoft developer Jean Guesdon recently shared some fascinating history about the development of Assassin's Creed 2. In a recent interview, he explained that the team originally intended to cover Ezio Auditore’s entire life story within a single game. This vision included everything from his early childhood all the way to his eventual rise as the Mentor of the Assassins.

Fans who have played the series will recognize that this massive scope eventually became the basis for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. Guesdon noted that the development team realized their initial plan was far too big to fit into just one game. They had to rethink how to tell the story of such an iconic character.

It is interesting to think about how different the franchise might look if the team had managed to cram all those events into a single release. While we ended up getting multiple titles to flesh out Ezio's legacy, knowing that his path to becoming a Mentor was always part of the core plan adds a new layer to how we view his growth throughout the games.
