Connor McDavid Makes History as First Member of NHL 27 99 Club

It is finally happening. Connor McDavid has officially become the first player in the history of the EA Sports NHL series to earn a perfect 99 overall rating. The Edmonton Oilers captain, who was rated a 97 in the previous game, saw his stats climb to the top spot after another incredible season where he recorded 138 points across 82 games.

The 99 Club has been a staple in other sports games for a long time, but it is brand new to the hockey franchise. McDavid actually spoke out about the missing rating back in 2024, questioning why the game did not recognize top talent the same way other sports titles do. EA has finally listened, noting that the 99 rating is reserved for players who show total mastery over every part of the sport, from speed to puck control.

While McDavid is dominating the individual ratings, the pressure is on for him to find team success after a tough playoff exit last season. Players who want to experience this peak performance can get their hands on the game when NHL 27 launches on September 11, 2026. Early access begins on September 4 for those who pick up the Deluxe Edition.
